I think Matt Walsh is sharp and persuasive. His YouTube posts are very popular and often informative. I think his explanation of the history of Indian tribes is well presented, but his critique of Ken Burns being too woke in his series on the American Revolution seems a stretch.
His most recent post is “Dismantling the Disastrous ‘Birthright Citizenship’ Decision in 45 minutes” in episode 1805. He begins by saying the Supreme Court ruling is the worst ruling ever by far, and that it “could very well bring about the end of the United States itself”. This is the definition of hyperbole. Suggesting that a policy that has been in place since the founding and has not destroyed the United States in 250 years will now end in destruction because the policy is upheld is incredulous.
The bulk of the posting is thoughtful and well-reasoned, but also arguable. That is why there are 9 members on the Supreme Court and why there is a legislative body to consider changes in policy and law.
Walsh ends by referring to the saying “He who saves his country violates no law”. Consider the danger in that statement. If that means ignoring the rule of law, that is a far greater threat to bring about the end of the United States than a Supreme Court ruling. I hope Walsh understands that his recourse is the legislative process.
I am running for governor, and recognize the subject matter is better addressed by US Senate candidate Ted Brown. I am writing this because I respect the rule of law and refrain from using hyperbole. Hyperbolic statements are self-marginalizing.
