I met Greg Abbott many years ago at an event in Austin. I shook his hand and had a brief and cordial chat.
I have never considered Greg Abbott evil, stupid, or incompetent. In several ways I admire him. To have persevered through a broken back to become a Supreme Court judge, Attorney General, and Governor is impressive. The email I saw from his campaign today is compelling:
Gina Hinojosa calls Greg Abbott the most corrupt Governor in Texas history. Considering Ma and Pa Ferguson and “Pappy” O’Daniel, that is saying something! It certainly is concerning if a Governor grants no-bid contracts to political contributors, but I am not aware of conclusive proof that Abbott has quid-pro-quo relationships. If Hinojosa has that proof, we would like to see it.
Some of my concerns with Abbott are:
– He has not acted to exonerate Robert Roberson, an innocent man on death row. I suspect like Rick Perry he would rather be considered tough on crime at the expense of an innocent life. I am not afraid to say that I oppose the death penalty.
– His corporate welfare to AI data centers and other industries makes Texas unsustainable. He does not accept Free Market Sustainability. He would rather put the burden of growth on taxpayers than on the corporations causing the impact of growth.
– He complains about wasteful local spending, yet does nothing about the growth of state spending under Republicans. By placing blame at the local level he is proposing limiting, slashing, or eliminating local property taxes without explaining how police and teachers are going to be paid.
– He uses the election code to rig elections. If the president of the United States asked me to draw congressional districts with no new census data in order to favor a political party, my answer is NO.
– He attacks Muslims for their faith and tries to scare people about Sharia law. There are no courts in Texas that have adopted Sharia law.
I also have concerns with Hinojosa, such as
– Reducing the state reserve account to 1 month of operating costs to pay for a $1,500 promise to Texans if they elect her. I am concerned of the impact on fiscal security and interest payments when the state credit rating suffers. I think this is fiscally irresponsible
– She opposes school choice. I defend the empowerment of parents and teachers.
These are not personal attacks. Both of my opponents may be honorable and respectable people. I believe their policies are bad and dangerous. If you want a Governor that puts principles above politics and will work toward making Texas politics more about principle than war, I ask for your support and vote.
