- How do you view the current state of Texas’ medical cannabis program?
Example: What reforms, if any, would you support to improve patient access, reduce costs, or streamline the process for participating in the program?
The current status seems burdensome and complicated. Ending the war on drugs is the answer, just as ending Prohibition was the answer to the war on alcohol.
- Do you support eliminating or modifying registration requirements for medical cannabis patients and allowing access based primarily on physician certification?
Yes, I support elimination of restrictions for adults to make their own decisions, just as they do for alcohol.
- What is your position on protections for medical cannabis patients in areas such as employment, housing, and parental rights?
Employers should be able to set their own policies for their business. I would hope that the employer consider impairment more than prying into the medication being used. I see no reason to deny housing or parental rights for medical cannabis patients We don’t take children away from parents who drink, why would parents lose their rights from responsible cannabis use?
- How would your administration approach criminal justice reform related to past cannabis convictions?
I do not consider cannabis use a crime. We should consider policies that release people from prisons for cannabis “crimes” and eliminate discriminatory policies toward cannabis users. All convictions for cannabis crimes should be automatically expunged.
- What role do you believe social equity should play in the development of any future adult-use cannabis market in Texas?
I do not see social equity as a consideration in this matter. The adult-use cannabis market should be a free market that does not discriminate on the basis of social equity
- How would your administration address public health and safety concerns related to cannabis, including impaired driving, youth access, product safety, and responsible use, while also considering the rights of adults and medical cannabis patients?
Impaired driving should be illegal and well enforced as it is for alcohol, which is also a drug. Youth access should follow the same policy as alcohol. Product safety should be enforced through the rule of law when harm is done and through laws prohibiting fraud. Responsible use is at the discretion of the consumer as it is for alcohol.
- Do you have any personal or professional experiences that have influenced your views on cannabis reform, medical cannabis, or patient access in Texas?
The only drug I use is beer. During alcohol Prohibition, I would have been jailed for it. Today, we unjustly jail cannabis users. Our founding fathers used cannabis and hemp. They made sure that our rights were protected. I have no direct experience with cannabis policy other than my experience working for individual liberty in the Libertarian Party and my affiliations with leaders in cannabis policy in Texas
