Patrick Dixon I think the most concise answer I can give you is that I consider
myself pro-life, but I am not a single issue candidate with plans to address this
issue in the Texas senate. I do not think there are simple answers to vexing
ethical questions in which my Catholic faith is pitted against separation of
church and state. Therefore, here are some guidelines that express my views on
both sides of the issue:
- I do not believe life should be discarded when someone else finds it
inconvenient. I support Ross Perot’s statement on this during a presidential
debate. - When there are gut wrenching medical decisions to be made that might result
in the death of a fetus, I do not want politicians sticking there nose into a matter
that patients and their doctors are struggling with - I will not use a position in government to impose my religious beliefs on others.
My record on city council is proof. - I do not know the best policy on cases of rape and incest. I value reasoned
input. - There is a declining abortion trend in Texas, which is good. I am hoping this
continues, but I hope this is accomplished by offering persuasion and options
such as adoption in contrast to police actions.
Lastly, my website says what it says and will stay that way. My platform is one
word: Logic. I will not list the gifts I will bestow if I am elected. I do not have
special interests and lobbyists helping me get votes in exchange for favors. I am
not going to divide voters or opponents into friends and enemies. I will look for
common ground and common sense.

Q: Thank you for taking the time to answer my question and for
doing so in a manner that I feel comes from a place of honesty and integrity. As
someone who is pro-life without exception, I would, of course, had preferred a
more firm position. That said, I feel our views on this topic are more in alignment
than they are apart. I hope that one day we can sit down and talk over the areas
where we differ, primarily on cases of rape, incest, and as to whether abortion is,
in fact, ever medically needed to ensure the health of the mother. Again, thank
