OJO FRIO, NM
A month ago I was at the Mexican border. This morning I wake up at Ojo Frio, about 600 miles north
I went to get water at the Ojo Frio spring. There was a nasty concrete basin, and there was supposed to be cleaner water under some plywood across the road which I couldn’t find. My FirstNeed filter did the job on the nasty basin water, which came out a little cloudy but tasted fine
I headed down the road and missed where the trail went off road. When I recognized it I did some easy cross country hiking to get back to it
Today there were a lot of climbs and a lot of mud. It was slow going. The skies threatened rain all day. In the afternoon I came upon a cooler filled with bottles of water. I was pretty full on water, but I took one to stuff in my pocket. I love trail angels!
The dark skies kept things cool, windy, and dry until I sat down for dinner. The wind kicked up and it started coming down heavy. I quickly found a spot nearby to pitch my tent for an early night. Wouldn’t you know, when the tent went up the skies cleared and the sun came out
I might try getting out early to see if I can get to Cuba tomorrow night
