GLACIER NATIONAL PARK, MT

At 6:00 am Scout and Frodo took us to the Canadian border at the Chief Mountain trailhead. We hit the trail with glorious views. At Elizabeth Lake we stopped for lunch and I jumped in for a swim, with Grimm, Guy, and NomNom reluctantly following me in.

We had a big climb up Red Gap Pass with very strong wind. At the top the wind blew my gloves down the other side, with me chasing them for a while. I didn’t need the gloves badly but I hated to trash the park, so after a while I went way off trail looking for them. This involved some hard scramble for about 30 minutes until I found one. The other took another 15 minutes and they were about 50 yards apart. I didn’t realize that all this time the rest of the group was watching me from below. I saw them when I got back on trail and came up to a snow field. They encouraged me to glissade down, which was very fun and pleasant to my inflamed crotch.

I was not happy to have made people wait around and my right foot was aching from the scramble across a steep slope on loose rocks. I then did a complete face plant after I tripped while talking to Scout.

At Poia Lake campground I put up my tent without the rain fly because it looked clear. At 11:30 it started raining so I put the fly on. Fortunately it really didn’t get very dark so I could see what I was doing
