LAKE ANNE PASS, CO
The stay at Twin Lakes Inn was great. Last night’s dinner was beer cheese soup with sausage, duck stroganoff, and cherry chocolate truffle. It was one of the best meals of the trail. The bed was really comfy. This morning‘s complimentary breakfast was just what I needed to get going.
I left the inn in the rain with my DriDucks on. I went down the road to the shortcut around Twin Lakes and started the big climb up Hope Pass. The rain was off and on, like my DriDucks. When the rain stopped I would overheat with the DriDucks on so I stopped to take them off and store them. Soon after the rain started again and I would stop to put them on. That was the pattern most of the day.
I made it over Hope Pass and proceeded on to the next big climb over Lake Ann Pass. The trail conditions are good and I made it over with about an hour of daylight left. It took a while to get to a water source on the way down and there was nowhere nearby suitable for pitching a tent. I hauled the water further down to an acceptable camp spot and got the tent up just before dark.
It rained a few times through the night but the weather is supposed to be clear the rest of the week. I have 55 miles to Monarch Pass where I will get a ride into Salida. I hope I don’t need my DriDucks to get there.
