The flight to El Paso was uneventful. When I landed I walked to the information desk to ask if there were any places to avoid walking through on the 8 mile hike to the train station. The attendant seemed incredulous that I would walk 8 miles. I figured this was the easiest hiking I would have for 6 months. El Paso is actually known to be a very safe city. I did make one wrong turn through a train yard, my first navigational error.
En route I got a call from Amtrack that the train is delayed 4 hours. I was impressed with the notification, and happy to have extra time in El Paso
I got to the train station, had them store my pack, and went to a nearby Italian restaurant. I was the only customer and had a nice quiet lunch.
Since I had plenty of time I took a long walk. El Paso is an impressive town. The baseball stadium is beautiful. Stanton St is a busy hub of retail commerce.
We finally boarded the train and headed west. The train is very nice and comfortable. There was a power outlet to keep my phone charged while listening to the Pens lose.
I arrived 8:30, and had Radar and Peru there to pick me up. How nice! These two are really helpful in providing water reports on the CDT. I treated them to dinner at Kranberry’s
