VISTA PASS, WY
Cowboy camping was fine last night. I got on trail early.
The weather was great and hiking was mostly easy. After lunch it got harder as I started the big climb to the Knapsack Col route. I saw a lot of day hikers and fisher people out and I ascended. The climb was tough and I got to Vista Pass, which is a great camping spot part way up the climb to Knapsack Col. I met two forest service workers on the way that said there might be a monsoon tomorrowafternoon, so I wanted to get up here with a headstart for tomorrow‘s climb.
Another nice thing about Vista Pass is there is a pond to get water. Unfortunately, my brand new water filter that was performing very well is now completely clogged and back flush does not seem to help. This is extremely concerning. I boiled some water tonight so I can have potable water in the morning. Not having a working water filter with 5 days to the next tiny town, followed by the Great Divide Basin, is worrisome.
