The flight to El Paso was uneventful. When I landed I walked to the information desk to ask if there were any places to avoid walking through on the 8 mile hike to the train station. The attendant seemed incredulous that I would walk 8 miles. I figured this was the easiest hiking I would have for 6 months. El Paso is actually known to be a very safe city. I did make one wrong turn through a train yard, my first navigational error. En route I got a call from Amtrack that the train is delayed 4 hours. I…
