SAWTELLE RESORT
A beautiful day began with a great morning of hiking. It was warm, dry, and beautiful.
After lunch, things changed a bit. What changed was the trail; the lack of it. The plan was to take the shortcut to Mack’s Inn to resupply. I found the trail, which lasted about 5 steps. After that, I fought one of the nastiest bushwhacks of the trail. I had no choice but to thrash my way through. At one point I was on the wrong side of the valley, at an extreme angle trying to climb over fallen timbers. My feet got soaked from stream crossings, it was getting hot, I was climbing, and not sure where the trail was (if there was any). I fortunately ran into several groups of hikers going the opposite direction, including Grapenut, Lint, and Pappichulo who was just in Lima and got new shoes in Yellowstone. They helped guide me to the eventual resumption of trail.
I finally got to the long roadwalk toward Mack’s Inn. I had gone about 4 miles and wondering if I was going to make it before everything closed. After many vehicles passed me by, Richard slowed down and asked if I wanted a lift. HeHo! He got me to Sawtelle Resort where I pitched a tent, showered, did laundry, soaked in a hot tub, had Subway (yum), and beer at Connie’s
Life is good now; getting better all the time!
