TARGHEE NATIONAL FOREST

The camping at Sawtelle was great except that it is right next to a busy and noisy highway. I had a great omelet at Connie’s and resupplied before hiking down to Mack’s Inn. I had a nice burrito at Cafe Sabor and called to get my Yellowstone permit. I was then off for what I expected to be an easy day.

It was an easy day of road walk and gentle climb when I came to a water source called Latham Spring. I hunted all over and everything I saw was completely dry. I kept hiking to 2 other sources that were also dry. There is not even a puddle to be found. Therefore, I am rationing what I have

The good news is that I’m only a little over a mile from the Yellowstone boundary, 3 miles from the Wyoming border, and 10 miles to water at Summit Lake where I will camp. Tomorrow I will have completed 3 of 5 states. HeHo!
