SAN JUAN MOUNTAINS, CO
I didn’t get much sleep last night. Maybe the very bright 3/4 moon kept me up. It as below freezing and I had some icy water in my bottles.
I got going just after sunrise, planning to cover 23 miles. The weather was great again. I felt a little stronger today, perhaps because my pack is lighter
In the afternoon I came to the junction where the Colorado Trail (CT) splits with the CDT. After that junction, the CDT becomes tougher to hike and navigate because it is less well maintained that the CT. There were lots of thick bushes along the sides of the trail which makes it tougher to push through.
Just as the sun was going down I got to my camp spot. I was happy to get in 23 miles and felt pretty good at camp. I put up the tent with the fly, hoping to get good sleep without bright moonlight.
The downer was that when I went to the lake next to camp to fill water, I think my backup filter plugged. I have a lot of canister fuel to boil water, so I guess that’s my last recourse.
Only 66 miles left to Pagosa Springs. HeHo!
