SAN JUAN MOUNTAINS, CO

I got a decent start this morning and tackled some early climbs. I didn’t seem to have a lot of energy and took a few breaks. My pack is rather heavy since I have food to get all the way to Pagosa Springs. It will get lighter as the days go on.

It was pretty warm today, but still very good hiking weather. I had a lot more climbs to do with sunny skies and an occasional breeze.

I had planned to go to a water source several climbs away from my lunch spot, but at 6 pm I found a lake on a hill with good flat spots for camping. Since there was no rock or log to rest against I put up my tent.

A major disappointment occurred after getting my tent up. I went over to the lake and my water filter plugged. You may recall this happened before and I got a replacement. I have religiously used the clean out port to prevent junk from plugging. Two days ago in town I did a backflush. Perhaps somehow that caused the problem because I did not notice any issues before town. I have backup remedies, but really didn’t want to deal with another plugged filter.

On the good side, I have a full jar of swirled peanut butter and jelly. HeHo!
