SAN JUAN MOUNTAINS, CO

I got up pretty early to avoid wifi bandwidth contention. Uploads were slow but I got them done.

The town chores seemed to take longer than hoped. Memphis, Veggie, and ED planned to get on trail later in the day and I wanted to get out after lunch

Crosby got in and got interviewed by some people doing a story about raising money for charity. Crosby arranged for them to interview me as well, which I was happy to do.

I finally got things together and got out on the road about 2 pm. I pretty quickly got a hitch part way, and then got a ride very soon after for the rest of the way to Spring Creek Pass. It was the easiest time catching a ride the whole hike.

I started up the trail and heard a truck behind me. It was a hunter in a pickup, and he asked if I wanted a ride. I was happy to hop in and he took me up about a mile at a very slow pace due to rough road and a big herd of sheep.

I got back on trail after the road split off and managed to see the hunter several more times as the road intersected trail. I continued on looking for a urte (snow cabin) where the others said they would meet me tonight. I passed it and spotted it behind me when I turned around. I didn’t stay in it, but I cowboy camped next to it by a big log. The others never came; they probably stayed in town to go out the next morning.
