CHAMA, NM

We awoke after a night of revelry by nearby hikers that disturbed the peace and left a mess. A further mess was made when we stepped out of our tents into mud after thunderstorms in the night

I had discovered that we could get a free ride to Chama for tomorrow‘s celebration with the first day of the Cumbres-Toltec train. The CDTC will get recognition for having Chama as a gateway community for the trail. I pitched it to Bones and Dr John at breakfast and they were in. Then I found free lodging was offered by a Grants resident (Mary) who hiked the trail in 1981. HeHo!

I visited the museums at Ghost Ranch, had lunch, saw a video about Georgia O’Keeffe, got caught up, and took the ride. We got into Chama and had dinner at High Country with the CDTC folks. We then had our own revelry at Foster’s bar.

It was a fun day and a great way to kill time while snow (hopefully) melts
