SAN JUAN MOUNTAINS, CO

Waking up to another frosty morning, my first turn turned out to be wrong. I followed a reasonably well groomed trail downhill, missing the very faint and not easily detected CDT going off in a different direction. I discovered it reasonably quickly with my GPS, but still had to backtrack back up the hill I just descended. Heck!

The morning was clear and dry, which was very welcome. Not quite so welcome were big climbs; of course, its the CDT! There must be big climbs on the CDT.

After lunch things got very cloudy and it looked like rain loomed. Rain never did come, so it just remained cloudy

There was some cool hiking along knife edge ridges. Big drops were on both sides and I could see for long distances in all directions.

I camped at Rock Lake with good water, nice flat camp spot, and cell service to hear my Pirates get clubbed by the Cards; heck! I am only 5 miles from Wolf Creek Pass, so I will be in Pagosa Springs in the morning; HeHo!
